Hi world
The last week has been one of highs and lows for me
Lows include my laptop being sick and going to hospital so I am writing this on my I phone .... It will be short,
Menopause melt down ( don't ask!),
It rained ( cooled down)
Highs include ... It rained ( very  refreshing)
I finally found time to make some cards
Lost 7 lb sorry to mislead not ALL this week
I realised the big M is not going away.... Deal with it :0
Anyway here's the desk
pop over to Julia's to see more http://stamping-ground.blogspot.co.uk/

Here you can see
Made cards, lots of DI pads, lots of stamps, texture pastes and I finally found my special awl.
brought some blending stumps for zen tangling.
Anyway enough waffle here's some cards I made inspired by Shaz silver wolf

I finally finished my lace book so if you would like to see it follow the link though I warn you there are a lot of photos :) http://www.janets-fairythoughts.blogspot.co.uk/2013/07/in-july-my-friend-lee-and-i-went-on-two.html?m=1

LACE BOOK

In July My friend Lee and I went on a two day workshop at Art Van Go in Knebworth.
When we arrived at the shop I realised I was mistaken about their name .... Nothing to do with Van Gogh as I thought ... This is why

Obvious really!
As it was a Wednesday the first thing I did was take a pic of my desk... I didn't show it on the day as I was too busy ....doing .

Lots of goodies there.
The theme of the workshop was a lace sketchbook..
We took lots of " stuff" with us.
The first thing the tutor ( julia tristron) asked us to do was cut pages out of our book ( agh!) something I was always taught NOT to do...... But it made it much easier to work on the pages. Then we did a tea bag wash on them as a back ground.

Then we used various techniques on the pages, like sewing, accordion cutting plastic bags, stamping, inking, paper pricking and punching and lots more fun stuff.

My first few pages were a bit scrapbook- ish. I needed to think more sketchbook something I have never really done before

The colours Julia wanted us to use were all neutral.

Julia showed us some free embroidery sewing techniques and hessian sewing this is her piece.

Also eyelets.
There were 12 of us on the workshop but all our books were completely different.
Here they are at the end of day 2.

We had a brilliant 2 days lots of laughing, crafting and good food. They were so welcoming and helpful at the shop drinks available all day and they even ordered lunch for us a local deli/ sandwich shop. I
I have been working on my book when I can and I think it is almost finished

This was my first page ... It is still a bit scrapbook ish but I think my later pages are less so.

There are a lot of cut and layered pages.

I like the lace meets grunge look with the cogs

Cut out wallpaper and pin pricking

More layering and a bondaweb sandwich . ......not as nice as the deli ones!

Cut outs and layering
Years ago I used to make bobbin lace, so when I got home I found out my sample file. Well, I thought I could give them an outing. The Small paisley shape On the right is the first piece I used.

The other side of the circles and an ironed bath scrunchie with a tag and lace inside.
Lots of layered pages on the right

More bobbin lace on the left.

Stamping and stencil work, it doesn't show that much but on the right is a lovely tree stencil, with fibres hanging down.

Vylene cut out flowers with buttons.
A mix of bobbin and machine lace

Lace doiley on the left and bobbin lace and window on the right.

The other side of the window and a bigger window with more bobbin lace.

The other side of the window.

The eyelets and a paper doiley with a window and my hessian stitching

This one is bit of an arty farty close-up which I think I will use on my cover.
We really had a brilliant time if you ever get the chance to go I would highly recommend it.
If you made it to the end and have enough energy left go leave a comment give yourself a pat on the back and thank you.

WOYWW216 panic------ over

Hi Peeps
now I know its not Wednesday yet but like many of you I write my WOYWW post on Tuesday night coz I have work early on Wednesday.
But tonight apparently Julia has had to post tonight because of 'technical reasons'. check  out the details here stamping-ground.
My mate Lucy cat loves bear crafts text me to tell me and I hadn't even started to write so I'll make it short and maybe I can get to bed earlier (not much chance of sleeping in this heat though)

My main desk with a few bits I am trying to finish; my lace book ... I am doing a whole post related to this workshop piece but it is taking a while and I ran out of time this week.
The pink and purple box at the front is a little decopatch chest I am doing with my GD Erin.... very sticky!
The green draw chest has Erin's button collection in (usually all over the floor)

The other desk is full of stuff I want to start.... a new mini patchwork piece for my bedroom.
I have the fabric..... in the bags all ready for when I have the time.
On the right is a big pile of magazines I am working my way through, so much to do...... so little time
well that's all folks.
thanks for all your lovely comments last week I think I visited everyone who visited me and a few others.
I like the new bloglovin daily e mail as I look at a few blogs on my phone through the day some of you may have noticed me commenting during the week, I never had the chance to do that before.
please leave your Mr Linky no so I can find you
thanks
janet
p.s . big congratulations to the Cambridges on the birth of their baby boy

WOYWW 215 gush alert / mess alert too

Hi Peeps
Gosh it has been a busy crafty week for me: workshops, tidying, card making and sewing.
I haven't see the rest of the worlds desks yet this week, they could be just as busy/messy/tidy as mine but I bet they are all inspirational.
Check them out at the stamping ground,   Julia  says keep it short.... I will try, so here goes.
this is my desk today ....lots of projects mixed together

Stamps and dry foam from a quick card, a prototype watch strap and  leather scraps. brads and lots of glues. On the left under the foam is the  lace book I started last week at ART VAN GO with my friend Lee.
Here is the view from our bedroom window at Art Van Go

Oh! ok, you got me, its a picture on the wall .... a girl can dream cant she!
Lee and I had such a blast I haven't laughed so much for ages.
There were 12 of us on the course here  are our books at the end of the 2 days ... not finished but fabulous anyway.

My book from the front

I learnt lots of new techniques from JuliaTriston our tutor including this one made with hessian

This is her piece not mine I am still practising.
Just before I left I finally finished my latest quilt for Jo at lillybo quilts. I know it has arrived so I can show it now. I started with the outside as it was some bunting from last year.... it was quite a challenge to get the middle to fit !

Finally this week I had to do some tidying up! My handyman brought me a pressie from his office which is in the process of relocating and getting rid of furniture.
I had to make room for this little baby.

WOYWW 214

Hi world
Time again to nosy  at the work desks of the world. I am away from my desk today  on a workshop at art van go.
But here is my desk on Tuesday eve before I left.
Not much going on..... Just stuff!

The mat covered with strawberries on is the glass mat I use as a heat mat when I am using shrink plastic.  I made a necklace with it on Saturday. If you look carefully you can kust see the left overs i shrank just to see what if?
At the back are a load of sparkly brads I brought in the sale at work, don't you just love crafty sales!
There's some inka gold ( I love that stuff)
No scissors today as they are going with me.
That's all from me so pop over to see julia and the long list of desks to visit ... If you dare.

Finally here is the necklace set  I made with the shrink plastic.

Usual rules apply if you are kind enough to leave a comment I will get back to you.... But later in the week this week .... I won't forget

WOYWW 213 multi tasking

Hi Peeps
Well it seems the blogging world didn't come crashing down on Monday after the switching off of Google reader, or maybe it did and I blinked and missed it.

Anyway, if there is anyone out there here is my desk for this week.
Welcome to Kimberley Hogan my newest follower...  lovely to meet you.

I will try and keep it sort 'coz Julia says so; here goes
Pop over to stamping-ground. to join in the fun

Lots of threads and scissors  I am starting to get stuff ready for a 2 day workshop at Art Van Go next week. I am going on the train so I need to travel light.
At the back is the time stamp set I brought in Paperchase 's sale reduced from £8 to £2.40 bargain!
On the left is a selection of notebooks I am thinking of taking for the workshop, haven't decided yet

On my other desk .... more stuff for the workshop I don't think I have made anything on my desk this week. I did some sewing ... finishing a lilybo quilt while watching the tennis on Saturday

Sewing machine on the coffee table ... how's that for multi tasking?
A few weeks ago I posted that I was making myself a blouse and had to change the length so it didn't show my belly button... not a good look at my age!
My calculations didn't go to plan and it was still too short... but on the up side I have sorted the belly button problem.

###### Added Note: sorry if that put you off your breakfast/lunch/dinner /coffee and sticky bun.

Finally can anyone help Identify this picture?
I brought it  a while ago in a charity shop because I loved it.

I have tried to find something about it ...but no luck. I think it is 1930's ish.
the caption says "I just hate to get my feet wet". It is not signed
I hope that was short enough and you made it too the end.
If you leave a comment I will pop by and visit you later
bye for now
